Peeps Diorama Contest 2010
Mar 2nd
The Washington Post’s Peep Diorama Contest is upon us. The deadline was tonight (Monday 11:59 pm.). I decided at the last minute to enter the contest. Here are the ideas I was thinking of:
1. The Blob. A Jello mold with Peeps stuck inside it, and a Peep in the clutches of one of The Blob’s two tentacles.
2. Peepo Jima. The raising of the American Flag on Iwo Jima with Peeps.
3. Peep Roulette. A take-off of Chat Roulette, the Internet service that randomly connects to another stranger with a web cam. The diorama would have been a Peep sitting in a chair in front of his computer with his pants down.
After deliberating for a while, I felt that all of these ideas were too derivative and didn’t fully express my creative powers . So I scrapped them all, brainstormed for a few hours, and finally came up with this submission. I can’t say it’s a guaranteed winner, but I’m pretty confident I’m in the running for the top 3.
D.C. Folks…
Nov 24th
The Multiverse is a light show exhibition at the National Gallery of Art. I haven’t seen it yet but I will soon–it closes on Nov. 30.
Zombies!
Oct 23rd
My roommate is drawing a Zombie of the Month, and today she made a Halloween-themed zombie.
If you live in the DC area, there is a zombie walk this Saturday in Silver Spring.

The one-two punch of the crying eagles is my favorite. Burger King: close second. (link).
The Peacock Room
Jul 11th
Part of The Pancake City Guide to D.C. Museums. An almost completely true retelling of the creation of The Peacock Room.
Location: Freer Gallery, Washingon D.C.
This guy Leland hires a famous architect to design his dining room. The room is 95% done when the architect consults his friend Whistler about what color to paint the dining hall shutters and doors. Whistler says, “I got this one. I’ll paint them yellow.” Leland’s like “Yellow’s alright” and leaves on a trip.
After Leland leaves, Whistler is like, “Screw it, this place needs some peacocks.” So he starts putting all these gold-crested peacocks and peacocks feathers around the room. Leland writes him a letter. “How’s it going?” Whistler: “Don’t come home yet.” Leland: “Fuck.”
Then, to top it off, Whistler starts inviting his friends and the press over to Leland’s house. “Hey, everybody. Check out all the peacocks I put in this room.”
Leland returns home and he’s like, “Dude, WTF? There are peacocks everywhere and some guy from The Daily News is using my shower.” He gets mad and totally flips out at Whistler. Then for some reason he goes on another trip and leaves Whistler alone again.
Whistler is pissed he got yelled at, so he decides to put two more ginormous peacocks in the room. One of them which symbolized Leland and looks like a total douche bag peacock.
And we call this art. Here’s a photo!

Robot monkey justice has been achieved.
My roommate Meghan added silhouettes of a monkey and robot facing off on a hillside in the background. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, this is the original post. Photos:
You can see the mural on the intersection of Half Street and M Street in SE. Walk down Half Street (towards the Nationals stadium) and it will be on the right. It will be painted over a week from now, so head over soon if you want to see a cool mural with a dab of robot monkey flavor.
Looking for a muralist?
Jun 1st
My roommate, Meghan, is a very talented muralist and has started her own mural business. Art is a great way to spice up a room, liven up a community center, or attract customers to a storefront. She does portraits too, if you are looking to give a special wedding gift. If you like art, give her portfolio a look.

The top 4 are amazing. I can’t even guess how they made some of these.
Back from the past: Strip Creator
Oct 18th
I posted a link to this site a few years ago and forgot about it until now. It’s Strip Creator, a web site that allows the creative and artistically untalented to create their own comics. This one is mine:
This one isn’t mine, but it’s funny.
